Portrait of Mrs (Sarah) Siddons - Actress - Framed Oil on Canvas after the original

An original Oil on canvas, late 19th/early 20th Century (presumably) in the manner of the original in the National Portrait Gallery and depicting the well known and celebrated Victorian Actress Mrs Sarah Siddons. Interesting newspaper clippping and picture  is affixed to the rear of the canvas stating that this was "Lawrences portrait of Mrs Siddons hanging in the National Gallery" and that he and she "were chief characters in the play at 3.00".,  together with handwritten notes also attached to the reverse stating "Sarah Siddons (1755 -1831)  English tragic actress; born Brecon, Wales; the daughter of Roger Kimble. Played with the Garrick's company at Dury Lane (1775) & acheived triumph as Isabella in "the fatal Marriage" (1782). The role best adopted to her powers was that of Lady Macbeth"

The canvas carries the stencilled imprint of  "Kemp & Co Artists Colourem, Victoria St SW"
